Check for vacuum leaks, on OBD II vehicles a vacuum leak on the intake side volition cause a O2 Sensor fault code.

Cheque for vacuum leaks, on OBD Two vehicles a vacuum leak on the intake side will cause a O2 Sensor fault code.

Check all the hoses in this moving picture for holes, splits and cracks. Dad replaced $250.00 worth of O2 Sensors on his T-Bird and the problem was actually a loose vacuum hose. This may not exist your problem but it'south a expert place to start.

Aye, I went and checked my '96 and it'south the bottom movie. You said the Cheque Engine Light flashes when it runs poorly. On OBD II vehicles a flashing light indicates a misfire. If it misfires enough it will run too rich and crusade a mistake code. Have you lot done a tune-up? It'southward very difficult to diagnose over the net but I'd change the plugs and wires, take the codes cleared past Autozone and see what happens.

EDIT: Make certain the codes a cleared with a scanner and not just by unhooking the battery.

Yeah, I went and checked my '96 and it's the lesser picture show. You said the Check Engine Lite flashes when it runs poorly. On OBD II vehicles a flashing calorie-free indicates a misfire. If it misfires enough it will run too rich and cause a error code. Take you washed a tune-up? It's very difficult to diagnose over the cyberspace but I'd alter the plugs and wires, accept the codes cleared by Autozone and meet what happens.

EDIT: Brand sure the codes a cleared with a scanner and not just by unhooking the bombardment.

Information technology is funny you mention a tune upwardly considering it was running poorly and i did a tune up about iii months ago,. plugs, rotor ,distributor cap and wires and information technology ran good about ii months, then it started running bad again...I honey this truck And want to proceed it a long time just this is making me crazy I have until october to figure out this bank check engine light problem because in NY country you deceit become a inspection now with the lite on....Thank you for all your assistance...Dawn

I actually wish we could help you more. I'd probably get a professional technician to diagnose information technology. If you need parts similar an exhaust manifold or transfercase in that location are enough of sources hither on the board at very reasonable prices. Fixing it is ordinarily cheaper than buying a new vehicle.

EDIT: Make sure the codes a cleared with a scanner and not just past unhooking the battery.

For some reason, My scanner will not articulate the codes.  I have in the past simply unhooked the bombardment for a minuite or two and pressed the brake two or three times.  And so reconnect the battery.  This has worked sucessfully on a 1994 1996 and 1998 Sidekick.

Most o2 sensor codes that I've run across (NON SUZUKI) have either been the result of a poor running truck, (Running rich) giving the o2 a bad reading, or a bad o2 sensor its cocky.

So far mine on the Suzuki accept only been EGR codes.

Tin you requite whatever better descriptioin of the drivability?  Any specific running issues?

What is the lawmaking?  I never saw whatsoever mention of what trouble code information technology's giving.  Like someone said though, the flashing calorie-free unremarkably indicates a misfire (although I recollect it may flash for a couple of other things too).  Browse tool should tell yous which cylinder is misfiring

You shouldn't unhook the bombardment to clear it on OBD2, because it clears the retention in the ECM and information technology has to showtime the whole learning process all once again.  Codes should only be cleared with a scan tool.

Aye, on sure vehicles there are steps you lot must go through to properly teach the ECU after the battery is asunder. I helped a friend reprogram his Ford Profile and information technology's a detailed process. I don't know how true it is only his transmission said that if done incorrectly the vehicle would not perform to information technology'southward full potential. That'southward why they sell those cigarette lighter plugs with the 9v battery attached.

Thanks, TN Tracker, for the pics of the hoses.  I've had a like problem with my Tracker, as well a '96.  Perpetual service engine light that commonly goes out when it's warm outside.  Once information technology gets cold or moist and cold, the light comes on.  At first information technology coded as an "EGR circuit menses malfunction" now it as well has an O2 sensor (pre-cat) malfunction.

Vehicles has always run fine with the exception of wanting to stall (very low idle) when information technology'southward restarted and warm.  It's always done this.  I checked the plugs recently afterwards the service engine hasn't gone off for about a year and they're clean and "normal" looking ... not sooted upward or anything.  I likewise cleaned the EGR valve simply it wasn't carboned up either.

Vehicles yet runs well, though: I'chiliad stumped but hither in PA, the vehicle tin can pass emissions with less than 5K miles a twelvemonth.  This yr, the light has to exist out at inspection time because it'll be more than than 5K miles.  I've checked vacuum hoses, but will recheck.  Thanks over again !!

The O2 sensor code is probably actually a bad O2 sensor.  The EGR valve will give a P0400 code.

I've heard that sometimes when there's some other error code, the side by side mistake code will oft be an 02 trouble code, just in this case, you're probably right because the vehicle has 80K+ miles on information technology.  I'll probably as well endeavor cleaning out the carbon from inside the head instead of simply the sensor itself this spring.  Thanks !!

Cheers, TN Tracker, for the pics of the hoses...

You lot're welcome. I feel for you lot folks that have inspections. The OBD II Trackicks are notorious for throwing codes, yous hear it all the time. Mine currently has a P0400 code but I'1000 waiting until information technology's warmer before pulling the egr and exhaust manifold cause we don't have inspections.

You lot're right about the lawmaking: mine is either a P0400 or, I thought, a P0440.  Does that ring a bell?  Apparently we're not the but ones, either.  I used to ain a '95 Tracker and the new owner even so has it and it'due south running strong.  No codes, either ....
